Markus Huber was born in 1979 in Lienz (Austria). He began his musical education studying violin and later piano. At the age of 15 he decided to shift from violin to viola because of the dark timbre of this instrument. He studied viola with Christos Kanettis at the “Tiroler Landeskonservatorium” in Innsbruck. After earning his diploma he continued his studies with Wolfgang Klos, Siegfried Führlinger and Ulla Schulz at the “Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst” in Vienna, where he received his second diploma. Markus Huber has attended master classes with Thomas Riebl, Johannes Lüthy, Hartmut Rhode; has been awarded prizes at national and international competitions; and was a member of the “Wiener Jeunesse Orchester” and the “Junge Österreichische Philharmonie”. In 2002 and 2003 he was solo violist of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) under the conductors Vladimir Ashkenazy and James Conlon. Since 2003, he has been a member of the Minetti Quartet. The Quartet has been awarded prizes at several competitions and has attended important master classes (for example with Norbert Brainin, Hatto Beyerle, Johannes Meissl, Günter Pichler, Valentin Erben among others), and will be performing in Europe, America and Asia (2007). Markus Huber plays a viola made by Giovanni Battista Ceruti, Cremona, ca. 1810, on loan from the Austrian National Bank. |
