Leonhard Roczek was born in 1983 in Salzburg, Austria and got his first piano lesson at the age of four. 1990 he started to study the cello. At the age of 10 he attended the "Universität Mozarteum" where he studied with Heidi Litschauer and Clemens Hagen (Hagen Quartett). 2001 he continued his studies in Vienna with Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartett). Chamber music studies with Johannes Meissl (Artis Quartett).
He is prize winner of national (Prima la musica, Gradus ad parnassum) and international (Liezen, Gorizia) cello competitions and attended master classes with Zara Nelsova, Wolfgang Boettcher, Patrick Demenga, Christoph Richter and others. In 2007 he won the Gradus ad parnassum competition for cello solo and played the Schumann cello concerto with the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra (broadcast by ORF). He has received a scholarship from the Dr. Robert und Lina Thyll-Dürr Foundation (Switzerland) in 2008.
Since 1997 he plays concerts as a soloist as well as a chamber musician (Juvavum piano trio). 2001 and 2003 he is solo cellist of the Orchesterinstitut Attergau under the direction of Valerie Gergiev and Bobby McFerrin. In 2004 he plays the first time as a substitute in the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Leonhard Roczek is a founder member of the Minetti Quartett, with whom he has won several prizes at important international string quartet competitions in recent years. The quartet played concerts in North and South America, Japan, Australia and many European countries. 2008/09 they have been chosen "Rising Star" by the European Concert House Association and performed in this context at Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Stockholm Konserthuset, Cité de la musique in Paris, Cologne Philharmonie, Luxembourg Philharmonie, Athens Megaron, Brussels Palais des Beaux Arts, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Baden-Baden Festspielhaus, Salzburg Mozarteum and Vienna Musikverein. The debut album with works by Joseph Haydn was released in 2009 (Hänssler Classic).

A further important element in his musical life is "Metaphysis", a rock band consisting of three cellists, who have recorded their first CD "Metaphysis EP" in summer 2005.
